MOV to MP4
Convert MOV videos from an iPhone or camera to MP4 for free. Usually without re-encoding and without quality loss, done in seconds, without upload.
Container change instead of re-encoding
MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container; MP4 is its standardized relative. Both usually hold H.264 or HEVC video and AAC sound. ShrinkBeam therefore copies the existing data into a new MP4 file instead of decoding and encoding it again. That is why a one-gigabyte video is ready within seconds and keeps its original quality. Rotation, frame rate and sound stay as recorded; additional tracks such as subtitles or extra audio languages are not carried over.
Workflow and result checks
- Choose a MOV file, for example from an iPhone (MKV and WebM work too).
- Start the conversion; H.264 and HEVC videos are repacked directly.
- Check the preview and download the MP4.
Questions about this tool
Does converting reduce the quality?
Usually not. MOV and MP4 are containers for the same video data. When the codecs fit, the encoded frames and sound are copied unchanged into the MP4 container.
Why does my iPhone MP4 not play on an old PC?
iPhones often record HEVC (H.265). The MP4 keeps that codec. Older players may need HEVC support; to get H.264, use the video compressor, which re-encodes the video.
