Passport photo pixel dimensions — 35 × 45 mm examples

Convert print dimensions into pixels for a technical photo copy. This tool does not produce or certify an official biometric passport photo.

Requirements and examples

For a 35 × 45 mm print example: pixels = millimeters ÷ 25.4 × ppi, rounded to a whole pixel. That gives 413 × 531 at 300 ppi and 827 × 1063 at 600 ppi. A pixel count alone does not establish biometric compliance or acceptance by an authority.

German identity documents use a separate process

Since May 1, 2025, photos for German identity documents are produced digitally at authorities or photo providers. A JPG downloaded from this page does not replace that process. Follow the responsible authority’s current instructions; other countries can have different photo rules.

This export sets pixel dimensions but does not write a 300- or 600-ppi print setting into the file. Set the physical print size in your layout or print software. Keep the face correctly framed; this tool does not assess pose, lighting, background or facial proportions.

Prepare your image locally

Choose a preset or your own dimensions. The output is JPG; white fills transparent areas and any margins. No file is uploaded.

The image is never stretched. Without enlargement, a small source may leave margins even with centered crop. For manual positioning, use the crop tool first.

This checks the finished file; it does not automatically compress to the limit. 1 KB = 1000 bytes.
