Resize images for WhatsApp — profile and chat photos

Prepare a smaller JPG for your profile or a chat. The example dimensions are optional ShrinkBeam presets, not official WhatsApp limits.

Requirements and examples

WhatsApp’s profile help explains how to change your photo but does not establish a universal pixel requirement here. Use 1024 × 1024 or 500 × 500 as square working examples, and adjust the photo in WhatsApp’s picker.

Profile photo and chat photo are different tasks

For a profile image, keep the face or logo near the center and check the final app preview. For a chat, preserve important content rather than forcing a square crop. The 1600 × 1200 preset is simply an optional landscape working size.

The receiving app may process the file again. A local size check applies to your downloaded copy, not a promise about the size or quality after sending. For an HEIC source, convert to JPG first.

Prepare your image locally

Choose a preset or your own dimensions. The output is JPG; white fills transparent areas and any margins. No file is uploaded.

The image is never stretched. Without enlargement, a small source may leave margins even with centered crop. For manual positioning, use the crop tool first.

This checks the finished file; it does not automatically compress to the limit. 1 KB = 1000 bytes.
