Typical email attachment limits

Last checked against the linked provider documentation: 9 October 2026.

Limits depend on account, application and recipient. They can apply to combined attachments or the entire message; the table does not guarantee your message will be accepted.

How much margin should I leave?

Leave margin below the documented limit. Email transfer encoding and additional attachments can reduce your budget. Check the current error message and recipient provider documentation.

  1. Check the limit for your specific account.
  2. Add up all attachments.
  3. Reduce a new copy and inspect readability.
  4. Ask the recipient for another transfer method if the limit cannot be reached.
